A National Weather Service forecast through the week predicts heat index readings could reach 109 degrees in Henderson.
The extreme heat has caused a White Flag to be raised by local organizations. According to a post from the Harbor House Men’s Christian Center, “Operation White Flag is an emergency protocol activated in Henderson County when the heat index reaches or exceeds 95 degrees. This allows individuals experiencing homelessness to remain inside for the duration of dangerous weather.”
Women and children can contact the Father Bradley Shelter for accommodations, while single men can contact the Harbor House, said the post.
Kentucky gov. Andy Beshear also made a release on Tuesday reminding Kentuckians to take precautions in the extreme heat.
He urged people to hydrate, wear light clothing, stay in air conditioning bring pets inside, and avoid outdoor activities during the warmest times of the day.
