Mike Clement said he has mixed emotions about a recent home demolition conducted by the Habitat For Humanity of Henderson.

The residence, formerly at 916 Center St., was where he spent his childhood, and he was filled with some sadness when he learned that the home was one that the local Habitat planned to demolish.

But, as an installer for Woodard Cooling & Heating, he knows firsthand the work that Habitat does. Clement has been working for Woodard for 14 years, and he said he’s been on every HVAC installation for Habitat homes that have been built in that time. Woodard gives a big discount to Habitat for the work, Clement said.

The demolition complete, Habitat will begin work on a new home where Clement’s former residence stood.

“I’d rather see it torn down and allow a family to use that spot for their forever home,” he said.

He learned that his old home would be demolished when he was at a different Habitat build and asked a Habitat official if there would be any work done on the 900 block of Center Street. He was told 916 Center St.

And his response: “That’s my childhood home.”

Habitat Executive Director Britney Smith invited Clement to the demolition on March 6 and Clement took a brick from his old home for nostalgia’s sake.
