The 2025 Henderson County Sports Hall of Fame class includes a diverse group of dedicated individuals who made their mark both in and out of the athletic realm. Also being inducted is arguably the best football team in Henderson County history.

This year’s team honor belongs to the 2002 Henderson County High School football team, a squad that reached the Class 4-A Final Four, before being beaten by Louisville Male, led by Michael Bush.
- Finished the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record; 13-1 overall
- Allowed just 181 points, shut out four opponents and recovered a record 30 fumbles
- Set the record for points scored in a regular season (479), points scored including the playoffs (630)
- Recorded the largest margin of victory ever with a 73-0 win over Union County
Running back Alex Fendrick shared his thoughts on his team: “First of all, it’s a blessing. Personally, it’s about time. I can’t take credit without putting my team first and everybody who was involved and most of all to my GOAT (Greatest of All Time), Coach Tom Duffy because it couldn’t have happened without him. Living that life with the friends and teammates I had, that was beautiful. There is no team before us or after us, all in their prime…nobody could do nothing with us.”
Maci Brown was an elite two-sport athlete for the Lady Colonels who graduated in 2015.
- Four-year letter winner in basketball and softball
- Scored 1,208 career points (Top 20 all-time), made 281 three-pointers (4th all-time), had 407 assists (5th all-time), and collected 367 steals (3rd all-time)
- Holds the state tournament record after connecting on eight three-pointers in the state quarterfinals.
- Member of three Region Championship Teams; four-time All-District; three-time All-Region, two-time All-Region Tournament Team; State Tournament All-Tournament Team in 2015
- In softball, 45-20 record with a 1.74 career ERA and 343 strikeouts as a pitcher
- Gave up only a single home run in 426 career innings
- Was three-time All-District and was All-Region in 2015
- Played four years of softball at Kentucky Wesleyan
Brown considers the Hall of Fame a dream come true: “I’m super excited and honored. It’s always been a dream and I definitely feel very blessed. I had some really good teams around me. Particularly, basketball was the best years of my life. Our teachers and coaches at County were all amazing. I always loved waking up after a game and seeing pictures of us in the Gleaner, at the time, and enjoyed the outpouring of love from the community to cheer us on.”
Kyle Chapman, a 1994 HCHS graduate, played basketball, golf, and ran track.
- In basketball, scored 1,367 points (6th all-time)
- Career leader in three-pointers (183)
- Third-team All-State in 1994
- Played 75 games at Western Kentucky University; was team captain his senior year
- Three-year letterman in golf
- Two-year letterman in track
- Worked for 11 years in the NASCAR industry
- Current senior manager of business development at EchoPark Speedway (Atlanta Motor Speedway)
Chapman on his induction: “Very, very honored and humbled. I look back on my time in Henderson very fondly. It was a great community to grow up in and the feeling of community was very relevant and seeped through everything about the city and the county. I’m very thankful that my parents are still here with us and that they can enjoy this too because they played a very big role in this as well with all their time and support over the years. It was a very special time, and I can’t wait to come back and celebrate.”

Cain Cooper is a 2014 HCHS graduate who was a member of the track and basketball teams.
- Three-time KHSAA Class 3A State champion in Pole Vault (2012-2014)
- In 2013, jumped 15 feet – 1 inch breaking the school record which had stood for 45 years
- In 2014, set a new Henderson County High record of 15 feet – 4 inches
- In 2015, as a freshman at the University of Louisville, bested all ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) freshmen with a jump of 16 feet – 2 and 3/8 inches
- As a basketball player, scored 725 points (51st all-time)
- All-District Team 3 years 2012-2014.
- 2014 HCHS Valedictorian (4.5 GPA)
- 2018 University of Louisville Graduate with a Bachelor of Nursing
- 2019 U of L Masters of Nursing Graduate
Cooper credited the community and his pole vault coach for his success: “It’s an honor to be recognized. I give a lot of credit to having good coaches and really as far as track, the pole vault coach Kevin (Ferguson) was always available and willing to work. The fans and community were always super supportive and great.”
A 1964 Graduate of HCHS, Dennis O’Nan is entering the Hall of Fame for both baseball and basketball.
- Was named MVP of the baseball team and received a scholarship offer to Murray State
- On the basketball court, averaged a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds per game
- Went on to play basketball on scholarship at the University of Tennessee at Martin where he was a three-year starter. He was unable to play his senior year due to a broken foot.
- As a freshman, averaged 14 points and 12 rebounds; as a sophomore, 10 points and 11 rebounds; and as a junior, eight points and 10 rebounds.
- Spent 28 years as a professor at Mississippi State University.
“Those that spoke about Dennis on his behalf when his name was brought up and ushered into this year’s class spoke very passionately about his relevance to the sports community and Henderson County,” said Hall of Fame Committee member Steve Tow.

Kent Hauser goes into the Hall of Fame after working in the Henderson County Schools Maintenance department
- Worked for 34 years; retired in 2009
- Maintained the fields at HCHS, as well as both North and South middle schools.
“He would tell you ‘I got paid to do that. I got paid to take care of the field.’ But he did more than was necessary. He took care of those baseball and football fields like they were his,” said Hall of Fame sportswriter Kevin Patton of Hauser’s contributions to the Henderson athletic community.

According to Facebook, the inductees will be recognized at halftime of the first Colonels football game on Saturday, August 23 against Pulaski County. There will be a banquet held in their honor earlier in the afternoon at 2:00 PM in the HCHS cafeteria.
