A memorial service for former Henderson mayor, local state senator and owner of WSON Henry Lackey will be Saturday at the Presbyterian Church, said a recent article posted on WSON’s website.

Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. with the service starting at 2:30 p.m. A reception will follow in the church’s fellowship hall.

A 1965 graduate of Henderson High School, Lackey went on to numerous leadership positions—both political and in business—throughout his working life. He owned and ran WSON for many years, and in that time, called Henderson County High School football games with broadcast partner, Leo Peckenpaugh.

Lackey was also a Henderson City Commissioner from 1978-1981. In 1982, he took office as a local state senator, serving till 1986. He lost a bid for a second term, but came back and won a term from 1991-1994.

He was Henderson’s mayor from 2002-2006.

From 2008-2010, he served as commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Charitable Gaming. A private pilot with more than 7,500 hours of flight time, he in 2010 became deputy commissioner for the Kentucky Department of Aviation.

In 2016, Lackey became president and CEO of the Kentucky Broadcasters Association, retiring in 2018.

Lackey died Feb. 5, at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center with his family by his side, according to his obituary. He was 78.
