In an effort to grow and provide more and better coverage of the community, the Hendersonian has hired its first full-time employee.
Nate Boyett, who has run his own addiction recovery center, Boyett Treatment Center, as well as most recently holding the position of executive director of Southwest Indiana Recovery and Empowerment, has signed on to work in advertising sales and grant writing.
“I’m thrilled to join the Hendersonian,” Boyett said. “I feel it’s an exciting opportunity for me to contribute to local journalism in an impactful way. I’ll be focusing on selling advertising and writing grants to help support and grow our publication.”
Boyett is no stranger to quality, fact-based journalism and the positive effect it has on a community.
“Journalism is in my blood,” he said. “I’m the son of longtime The Gleaner journalist Frank Boyett, and I also worked there writing obituaries throughout my high school career. Growing up, I saw firsthand the impact that local reporting has on the community.”
The Hendersonian has recently changed its business model to a nonprofit status under the umbrella of the company, West Kentucky Public Service Journalism Inc. The change allows—in addition to advertising sales and subscriptions—the local paper to pursue grants, which Boyett will be charged with. Boyett’s hire was made possible by grants and donations secured last year.
“I look forward to supporting the Hendersonian’s mission and helping our community stay engaged and connected,” Boyett said. “Whether you’re a local business interested in advertising or an organization seeking partnership opportunities, I’m here to help. Let’s work together to make a difference in Henderson.”
Editor and Publisher Vince Tweddell believes Boyett’s influence will quickly be felt.
“Nate has already opened my eyes to new ideas and ways of doing things,” Tweddell said. “And with his enthusiasm and experience, there’s little doubt we’ll increase our revenue and reach—all so that we can hire more people to provide more and better journalism.”
