The bridge at the Union County-Henderson County line on U.S. 60 will be blocked off starting Monday so that maintenance work can be completed.
Traffic will be rerouted. Motorists coming from Union County will be rerouted at the U.S. 60 intersection with the US 60 bypass just east of Morganfield, said a release from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. These vehicles will take Ky. 56 east to U.S. 41-A, then north to Ky. 425, which will lead back to U.S. 60 in Henderson, the release said.
Traffic coming from Henderson will be detoured beginning at the U.S. 60 intersection with Ky. 425 and Ky. 136 in Henderson. Traffic will follow Ky. 425 to U.S. 41-A, then south to Ky. 56. Ky. 56 will then link to the U.S. 60 bypass, which will return them to U.S. 60 in Morganfield.
The project will allow a recently imposed 10-ton limit on the bridge to be lifted and is expected to be completed within a week, according to KYTC.
Following an inspection in May, engineers determined that a reduced weight limit on the bridge was a necessary safety step until deterioration on one of the support piers could be repaired. Engineers are now prepared to immediately begin repairs to the structure, which was built in 1943.
