The Henderson Police Department is investigating a Henderson County Sheriff’s Office deputy-involved shooting, which occurred 11:47 a.m. July 10, according to a release from HPD.
The investigation was requested by the sheriff’s office, said the release.
The preliminary investigation indicates that an HCSO deputy located a vehicle that had just fled from a traffic stop conducted by the HPD, said the release.
The HCSO deputy attempted to stop the driver in the 2900 block of U.S. 60-East near the Greenleaf Market. According to the release, the driver failed to stop, and the deputy pursued the driver east on U.S. 60. The driver and the deputy entered the nearby roundabouts, and both drivers failed to maintain control of their vehicles, colliding into each other before the vehicles came to a stop, said the release.
The deputy exited his vehicle and attempted to arrest the suspect driver, who accelerated in the direction of the deputy in an attempt to continue fleeing, said the release.
At this time, the deputy discharged his agency-issued pistol in the direction of the suspect’s vehicle, said the release.
The driver continued east on U.S. 60, but no units continued the pursuit. HPD and HCSO began an investigation to determine the owner and who may have been driving at the time of the incident, said the release.
At about 11 a.m. July 11, a female sought medical attention for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound at a local hospital, said the release.
The female was contacted by police and stated she was the passenger in a car that had been involved in a police chase the night before and that she was shot during the incident, police said.
The investigation is ongoing.
To protect the integrity of the investigation, HPD will not release additional details until vital witnesses have been interviewed, according to the release.
