City Junior Ambassador applications are open

The City of Henderson says the 2026-2027 City Junior Ambassador application process is now open for local students.

This educational and leadership program, open to students who will be seniors during the 2026-2027 school year, is designed for local high school students interested in civic engagement and community involvement, said a city release.

According to the city, ambassadors are selected based on their interest in serving the community and their desire to learn more about city government and local leadership. Interested students are asked to fill out an online application and a select number will be invited to interview for the program. After the interview process, students will be notified of their acceptance or denial into the program.

Participants in the City Junior Ambassador program will have the opportunity to:

  • Network with community and civic leaders
  • Participate in hands-on community projects
  • Go behind the scenes of Henderson’s city government
  • Learn about career, leadership, and engagement opportunities available in the community

“This program offers our local students a unique, behind the scenes look at how our local government operates. It empowers them to play an active role in their community,” said Holli Blanford, the city’s public relations director. “We are excited to welcome our fourth group of City Junior Ambassadors and can’t wait to see the impact they have on Henderson.”

Since being launched by Blanford in 2022, the program has successfully graduated more than 30 students.

The deadline to apply is Friday, February 20, 2026.

Applications can be found at https://bit.ly/2627CityJuniorAmbassadors.

Grants available from Deaconess Henderson Hospital Community Program Fund

The Deaconess Henderson Hospital Advisory Board says that the fourth annual grant cycle for nonprofit organizations located in Henderson County is open.

The DHH Community Program Fund is a result of the merger of Methodist Hospital and Deaconess Health System, said a release from Deaconess.

At the time of the merger, funds were approved to be used each year to promote the health and well-being of the citizens of Henderson County, said the release.

Grant proposals will be accepted from all interested non-profit organizations serving Henderson County, Kentucky. The grant application window will run from February 1 to February 28; winners will be announced in Spring 2026.

Grant monies will go to those organizations addressing the four areas identified in the current Henderson County Community Health Needs Assessment.

These areas include:

  •  mental health
  •  substance abuse
  • obesity/diabetes
  • health equity/access.

Other health related community programs such as those promoting wellness, providing access to health screening and preventing illness will also be considered.

Grants should also focus on improving the quality of life for Henderson County families. Other health-related community programs such as those promoting wellness, providing access to health screenings and preventing illness will also be considered.
