Fr. Bradley Shelter wins $15,000 grant from POW

The Fr. Bradley Shelter for Women and Children was awarded the first-place $15,000 grant from the Partnership of Women during its annual dinner Thursday night.

Kendall Dean, the executive director of the Fr. Bradley Shelter, said representatives of the shelter are thrilled by the award. The shelter plans to renovate its kitchen, adding commercial grade refrigerators and ovens.

“We’re absolutely overjoyed to be the 2025 POW! Impact Grant Winner,” Dean said. “This amazing support will help us transform our kitchen into a safe, welcoming space where women and children can share meals, learn skills and celebrate milestones. We are so grateful to the amazing women of POW! for believing in our mission and to our fellow finalists, The Port and Elevate, for the important work they do. We love our Henderson community and look forward to sharing all the amazing things that are happening at the Father Bradley Shelter for Women and Children.”

Finalists The Port and Elevate received $5,000 grants.

Comer will keynote chamber’s annual dinner

U.S. Rep. James Comer will be the keynote speaker at the Henderson Chamber of Commerce’s annual dinner on Monday, Sept. 22.

The dinner will be at the Henderson City-County Airport from 5:30-8 p.m., said a release from the chamber.

Comer, the 1st Congressional representative in Kentucky, serves Henderson County as well as 35 counties from the Mississippi River all the way to Franklin County.

Comer currently is chairman of the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and previously served six terms in Kentucky’s House of Representatives and four years as the Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture.

According to the chamber release, Comer helped in securing more than $12 million in Community Project Funding toward a $14 million runway expansion and reconstruction at the airport.

This project will extend and upgrade the runway while improving safety, accommodating larger aircraft and positioning our airport as a key asset for local economic development.

Tickets are now available for the Annual Dinner through the Henderson Chamber of Commerce website at

The cost is $75 for Chamber members with the early bird rate and $120 for non-members.

Early registration is encouraged due to limited seating. For more information, call (270) 826-7505 or email jada@hendersonkychamber.com.

Clay Street bridge completion in sight

The Clay Street Bridge on Ky. 812 in Henderson did not reopen as originally scheduled last week, but the end of the project is within sight, according to a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet release.

Engineers are closely monitoring the final stages of this project and hope to see the structure opened to traffic before the end of August, said KYTC.

In March, work began to fully replace the aging bridge, with a scheduled completion date of August 1, said KYTC.

A series of delays prevented the reopening of the bridge by the required contract deadline, said the release. Following contract terms, monetary deductions are being applied to contractor payments for each day beyond the original deadline until the bridge is safely reopened to traffic

The bridge, located at mile point 7.62 on KY 812, was closed for more than two months in the summer of 2024 after a routine inspection found significant deterioration in its steel support structure. KYTC engineers quickly designed and implemented a temporary repair plan that encased the existing supports in concrete to stabilize the structure and allow for the safe reopening of the bridge in July 2024.

A revised opening date will be announced as soon as the contractor provides a definite date for completion, said the release.
