Clay Street bridge completion in sight
The Clay Street Bridge on Ky. 812 in Henderson did not reopen as originally scheduled last week, but the end of the project is within sight, according to a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet release.
Engineers are closely monitoring the final stages of this project and hope to see the structure opened to traffic before the end of August, said KYTC.
In March, work began to fully replace the aging bridge, with a scheduled completion date of August 1, said KYTC.
A series of delays prevented the reopening of the bridge by the required contract deadline, said the release. Following contract terms, monetary deductions are being applied to contractor payments for each day beyond the original deadline until the bridge is safely reopened to traffic
The bridge, located at mile point 7.62 on KY 812, was closed for more than two months in the summer of 2024 after a routine inspection found significant deterioration in its steel support structure. KYTC engineers quickly designed and implemented a temporary repair plan that encased the existing supports in concrete to stabilize the structure and allow for the safe reopening of the bridge in July 2024.
A revised opening date will be announced as soon as the contractor provides a definite date for completion, said the release.
