Matthew 25 launches mobile sexual health unit June 11
Matthew 25 AIDS Services will launch its new mobile sexual health unit with an official ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 11 at the Matthew 25 Henderson Clinic at 452 Old Corydon Road. The public is invited.
This event, hosted in partnership with the Henderson Chamber of Commerce, will include tours of the two-exam room mobile unit and opportunities to learn more about the organization’s expanded outreach and prevention efforts, said a release from the organization.
The mobile sexual health unit is funded by a five-year, $3 million cooperative agreement from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and according to Matthew 25 is a milestone in its mission to improve access to HIV and STI prevention, testing and care in underserved communities throughout Kentucky.
The mobile sexual health unit focuses on a 10-county region that stretches from Henderson County to Barren County, while the organization services 25 counties in the state through other funding partnerships, said the release.
In Year 1 of the initiative, Matthew 25 has:
- Acquired the mobile unit to bring services directly to at-risk populations
- Begun providing Hepatitis C testing vouchers for individuals recently released from incarceration
- Conducted a comprehensive gap analysis of HIV prevention and care across its service area
- Developed plans to expand the HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) program and implement a Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) program
- Expanded capacity through the hiring of two new staff members, with a third to join in Year 2.
This mobile unit will help Matthew 25 deliver prevention, testing, care coordination, and education services more effectively across its multi-county service region, reducing barriers such as transportation, stigma and geographic isolation, said the release.
