Lane closure on U.S. 60 expected to start Saturday

I-69 Ohio River Crossing officials say a long-term lane restriction on U.S. 60 is scheduled to begin on or after Saturday.

The restriction is expected to be in place through late June, said a release from I-69 ORX.

According to the release, eastbound and westbound traffic will utilize a single lane of traffic, and movement will be controlled by temporary traffic signals located hear Tillman Bethel Road and Morris Drive.

Additionally, a right-turn only will be in place at Tillman Bethel. Traffic will use the far western roundabout to make a U-turn onto U.S. 60 to drive east, said the release.

The entrance to Morris Drive at U.S. 60 is also expected to close during the same time. Access to the Hillcrest neighborhood will be limited to the eastern entrance. Hillcrest Terrace and Henry’s Way can be used as alternate routes during the closure.

During the closures, crews will be rehabilitating the U.S. 60 bridge over CSX, widening and realigning the roadway and working on drainage, curbs and sidewalks, said the release.

I-69 ORX officials expect the new U.S. 60 interchange is expected to open to traffic late this summer.

HCC celebrates spring graduates on Friday

Henderson Community College on Friday will hold several celebrations in conjunction with spring graduation.

All events will be at the Preston Arts Center.

They include:

  • HCC FAME Graduation Celebration at 11:30 a.m.
  • Nursing Pinning Ceremony at 2 p.m.
  • Medical Lab Technician Pinning Ceremony at 3:30 p.m.
  • Spring Commencement Ceremony  at 7 p.m.

According to HCC Associate Registrar Tammie Zuber, 207 students have applied for 351 credentials, including 138 two-year degrees, 136 certificates and 15 diplomas.

The total number of two-year degrees to be awarded is an increase of 21.45 percent compared to one year ago, said HCC.

“These events provide an opportunity for HCC faculty and staff to celebrate the achievements of our students as they prepare to begin their careers or continue their education,” said Dr. Chad Phillips, chief student affairs officer. “We are incredibly proud of all they have accomplished during their time at HCC and look forward to seeing the impact they will make in their future academic and professional journeys.”

The Spring Commencement Ceremony will be streamed live on the HCC Facebook page.
