HCHS Cheer Squad | Cheerleading | Athletes of the Week for week ending Nov. 8

The Henderson County Cheer squad was named champions of the KHSAA Region 1 Cheerleading Competition in the Game Day Small Division on Saturday at McCracken County High School. Their score of 84.50 beat second-place Calloway County (75.00) by a safe margin in the 11-team division. Henderson County won the division last year and finished 10th at the state competition. They will compete in the state competition on Dec. 12-13 at George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester, Kentucky.

Head Coach Jacey Boston on their performance and preparation:

“Since becoming the Head Coach of the Henderson County High School Cheerleading program in 2021, my goal has been to encourage and push our athletes to be the best that they can be on and off the mat and to grow our programs on all levels. Over the past 5 seasons we have worked hard to grow both our JV and Varsity Squads. We currently have 51 cheerleaders between the two squads.  Of these 51 members who cheer for football and basketball games, 40 of them compete on our JV and Varsity squads.  The competition season has begun, and we have had great success in the past two weeks! We attended the Storm the Floor competition at Hopkins County Central where both teams took 1st place and our Varsity team also took home Grand Champion, scoring the highest score in the competition. This past weekend we competed at the KHSAA Regional Competition where our JV came in 3rd, and our Varsity took home 1st place Regional Champions.  Both of our teams will compete again mid-November in Lebanon, Tenn., at the UCA Regional Qualifier competition. In December our Varsity Squad will compete at the KHSAA State Competition in the Game Day Small division.  These athletes have practiced 10-15 hours per week since the beginning of June and continue to do so while going to school and some having other employment.  To have these ladies be recognized as ‘Athletes of the Week’ is very much deserved and I am thankful for them to be recognized in our community!”
