The Children’s Advocacy Center of Green River District, with help from the Henderson County High School baseball team, will again hold its annual Egg My Yard fundraiser this Easter.
On the night before Easter, HCHS baseball team members go to the residences of people who signed up and hide eggs in the front yard. A note from the Easter Bunny is also left at the residence. People who live in apartments will get eggs hung on the front door.
Annette Rigdon, the office manager for the CAC, said the money raised is split between the CAC and the HCHS baseball team. The CAC uses the money to pay for snacks and goodie bags provided at the CAC’s office in Henderson, Rigdon said. Every child who comes to the CAC office gets free snacks and can take a goodie bag, containing toys and crayons among other treats, when they leave, she said.
The CAC assists police and child protective services by providing forensic interviews and evaluations, mental health services and specialized child sexual abuse medical exams, among many other services, for minors who are victims of abuse or sexual abuse, according to information provided from the local CAC.
The center also provides therapy, parenting workshops and trainings, Rigdon said.
“All services are completely free,” she said.
The bulk of the work done by the center, a 501(c)3, is funded through state and federal grants. Those grants don’t pay for treats and goodie bags, though, Rigdon said.
The center serves Henderson County, but also Hancock, McLean, Ohio, Union, Webster and Daviess counties.
The money raised in the Egg My Yard fundraiser stays in Henderson, Rigdon said.
Rigdon said that there were 70 yards in which eggs were hidden in last year’s fundraiser, and 500-plus eggs were donated to residents in need. It raised $2,800, she said.
