Henderson County 4×200 Relay Team | Boys Track and Field
Henderson County’s 4×200 relay team with King Combest, Avant Baxter, Jack Dalton and Tyce Smith has been named March’s Athletes of the Month. Their dominant month included breaking the school record indoors, placing 7th at the 3A state indoor championships, winning the 4×200 at the Colonel Classic on March 14 and capturing another victory at the Spartan Relays at South Warren. In just a short time together, the quartet has already shattered the indoor school record and shown dominance as the outdoor season ramps up. Their competitive drive has quickly made them one of the top relays in the state.
The team shared their thoughts on the recent success:
“Our relay team has accomplished a great deal and is very deserving of Athlete of the Month. In just six weeks of working together, we’ve already broken a school record, and that is only the beginning of what we can achieve. As the saying goes, iron sharpens iron – and we truly embody that mindset. We push each other every day in practice and aren’t afraid to hold one another accountable. – Jack Dalton
“Started off the season strong, breaking a school record in only our second indoor meet of the year, followed by our first outdoor meet getting the 6th best 4×1 in the school’s history of 50 years of track… This is the most potential I have seen in my 6 years of track and we have and will do things Henderson hasn’t seen in decades, and that is a promise.” – Tyce Smith
“We’ve got the potential to be great – and I’m giving everything I’ve got to make sure we get there. -Avant Baxter
“We just got to keep working with the intervals and everything we’ve been practicing. I think we’ll do big things this season and we were very excited to break that school record. We’re going to leave it all out there this season.” – King Combest
