Firefighters Wednesday afternoon are battling a giant blaze at a Budge Industries warehouse located on the 1100 block of First Street.

At this stage, officials didn’t have a cause or origin, said Henderson Police Department Public Information Officer Jason Cullum, who is assisting with media relations for the Henderson Fire Department.

Cullum said the initial call came in at 12:33 p.m.

In addition to HFD, crews from Baskett, Zion, Robards and Corydon fire departments, as well as Ohio Township Fire Department from Warrick County, Ind., are assisting with the fire.

Cullum said at about 2:45 p.m. that no firefighters are inside the building fighting the fire.

“Due to the intensity of the fire, all fire crews are working from the outside,” Cullum said.

At 3 p.m., plumes of black smoke still billowed from the warehouse, while a firetruck ladder hose was extended above and doused the side of the building closest to First Street.

Cullum said the only injury reported is a person who had smoke inhalation. He did not know if it was a firefighter or resident.

Cullum said several small explosions have occurred inside the building that can be attributed to residential-size propane tanks.

He said that nearby residents have not been evacuated because nothing inside the building at 1156 First St. has been determined to be toxic.

Officials at the scene said Budge Industries leases the building from Western Kentucky Trucking, Inc. But the Henderson County Property Valuation Administrator’s website shows that First Street Partners LLC bought the warehouse from WKT in July 2023 for $1.3 million.
