There’s a good chance for a vote
The Henderson County Fiscal Court will consider a recommendation for a two-year moratorium on applications and permits of wind energy conversion systems at its Tuesday meeting.
The Henderson City-County Planning commission approved a recommendation for the two-year moratorium at its Sept. 2 meeting.
After planning commission staff transcribed the minutes and compiled the findings of facts from the Sept. 2 public hearing involving wind energy systems, the planning commission voted last Tuesday, Oct. 7, to approve and then sent the recommendation to the fiscal court.
The issue is listed on Tuesday’s fiscal court agenda with first a label of a resolution and then the description of “Planning Commission Zoning Text Amendment Recommendation.” The next agenda item is labeled as an ordinance and then “Article XXII (Wind Energy Conversion Systems) 1st Reading.”
Henderson County Judge-Executive Brad Schneider said the planning commission’s findings of fact and minutes from the Sept. 2 meeting have been distributed to the magistrates. He said Friday he has not discussed the issue with any of the magistrates since that information coming out of the planning commission meeting had been passed on to them.
He said the issue will be discussed in Tuesday’s meeting and offered two scenarios: one in which the fiscal court votes on the moratorium, or two, if the court doesn’t agree with the recommendation, laying out the next steps.
He stopped short of saying the fiscal court would for certain hold a vote but did say that in his almost ten years as county judge-executive, the fiscal court has always approved recommendations involving ordinance changes that have come from the planning commission.
When asked if he expected the same on Tuesday, he said, “It would not surprise me.”
