From her teachers, Wolfe learned she wanted to teach

During her senior year, Emmi Wolfe did her co-op at Cairo Elementary and Jefferson Elementary schools.

She helped co-direct “The Lion King” at Jefferson and assisted with the choir program at Cairo.

These experiences assured her that she wants to be a teacher one day—though not at the elementary level.

“It’s a lot,” she said with an implication that teaching young students is very demanding, so demanding that Wolfe could see herself getting burned out.

But “definitely the experience of working with kids has really opened my eyes,” she said.

She thinks she’ll prefer teaching at a bit higher level, which goes hand-in-hand with her love of literature and reading. Wolfe will attend Brescia University next fall and plans to major in English education.

But though she loves literature, it might be appropriate to say her passion is theater. Wolfe was named the theater student of the year at HCHS, where she capped her high school career playing the astronomer, Henrietta Leavitt, in the spring play, “Silent Sky.”

“That’s my favorite thing,” she said of the theater.

She also was part of the ensemble in the department’s winter play, “The Wizard of Oz” and in “The Crucible” last year. Wolfe helped to manage the stage for “Hairspray” a few years back, she said.

There’s no theater program at Brescia, but that won’t stop Wolfe from continuing to be a part of it. She plans to participate in community theater projects in both Owensboro and Henderson.

Wolfe commended all her teachers, especially those in senior year, saying they have “just been incredible.” She singled out theater teacher A.J. Casey because he helped her realize “education was what I wanted to do.”

“I definitely had my struggles,” she said. “Senioritis is real. Overall, County High is a great place. I’m definitely going to miss it.”
