The Habitat For Humanity of Henderson broke ground on its second house of the year on Saturday. The home located at 1501 O’Byrne will be one of seven that the local Habitat will break ground on in 2025, according to Habitat officials.

Georganna Smith will live in the home when it’s finished. She said she hopes it’s completed by December so that she can celebrate the holidays and her Jan. 1 birthday in her new home.

“I’m so overwhelmed with joy,” she said Saturday, adding she’s thankful for the opportunity to own “our home.”

She’ll live there with daughter Annacca, 15, and son Xavier, 14.

Habitat officials also said that the organization will close (when a new owner takes the keys and moves in) on at least six homes in 2025, with the possibility of a seventh.
