Meryl Grogan | Golf | Athlete of the Week for week ending Aug. 23

Grogan posted a career-best eight-under 64 as she went on to win the Christian County Invitational this past week by 10 strokes. She scored a 28 on the front-nine, which included four birdies and two eagles. Her incredible score is thought to be a school record. Her round helped the Lady Colonels to a first-place finish at the Invitational overall as well. Grogan, a junior, has been the best golfer for the Lady Colonels this season, consistently posting scores around the mid-70s.
Coach Payton Knight on her star golfer: “…Meryl came real close to (being perfect) on Saturday. She has been performing pretty steadily all season. Her career low before Saturday in a tournament was 76 and I’d say she has been right around there all season. She really needed a day like Saturday to happen in competition to show her that she is capable…She means a ton to this team. I think everyone on the team looks up to her and wants her to succeed. Meryl posting a good score is what sets the team up for a solid team score, and that’s really what we need as we move into the postseason.”
