Eighteen booths and tables and more than 100 people—perhaps closer to 200—attended the first ever Henderson Pride event Sunday afternoon.
It occurred in the parking lot next to the Chloe Randolph Organization building on Washington Street.
Attendees looked over the items for sell or services offered at the booths, heard speakers talk about their life experiences, listened to live music and took in a drag show.
Organizer Cooper Beck, 19, said he was nervous about the day up till the start of the event, but that there was a “beautiful turnout” for the day.
Pam Johnson, who wore a T-shirt that said “Proud Ally,” said she’s been an LGBTQ supporter in Henderson since she moved here 25 years ago. She said she has many friends and family members who are gay or lesbian.
“I don’t see any reason to discriminate against anyone because of who they love,” she said.
Additionally, Henderson City Commissioner Austin Vowels read a proclamation declaring June 2024 as “National Pride Month” in Henderson and “invite all citizens of Henderson to actively promote the principles of equality and liberty for all irrespective of sexual orientation or gender identity.”
