A Henderson man has been identified as the person who died in a train versus vehicle collision Monday afternoon near Robards.
Dillon Jones, 25, of White Oak Court, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Henderson County Coroner’s Office, according to a Tuesday release from the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident occurred at a railroad crossing on Anthoston-Frog Island Road at about 4:15 p.m. Monday.
About an hour later on Monday, Henderson County Sheriff Chip Stauffer said he had four deputy units at the wreck, and reconstructionist was working the scene. Other media reports say more emergency vehicles responded.
The HCSO’s release Tuesday said the office is still investigating the collision. Preliminary investigation indicates that Jones drove into the path of a northbound train, and the vehicle was struck on the driver’s side, said the release.
Stauffer said that Monday’s fatal collision is the same stretch of tracks that two men died in a train versus vehicle collision in October. That was confirmed by others who farm nearby, who say Monday’s collision occurred about a mile north of the October collision near Cherry Hill and Busby Station roads.
In that accident that occurred on Oct. 14, 2025, father and son Basten Johnson, 60, and passenger, Basi Johnson, 35, both of Orlanda, Fla., were pronounced dead at the scene by the Henderson County Coroner after the crash had occurred at 6:40 a.m., said a release from the sheriff’s office.
Neither of these crossings have crossing arms or warning lights, Stauffer said.
The sheriff also said there was another accident on the set of tracks within the last year when a man was crossing the tracks on foot and was hit by a train. He said that one occurred near Happy Acres subdivision.
Also at the scene of Monday’s accident were the Robards and Niagara Fire Departments, Henderson City/County Rescue and Deaconess EMS.
