Ross Plummer | Track and Field | Athlete of the Week for week ending Feb. 21
Ross Plummer made history last weekend, breaking the indoor 1600-meter school record with a time of 4:56.22 at the KTCCCA President’s Day Weekend Invite. The junior’s performance set a new indoor mile record for Henderson County High School and earned him Athlete of the Week honors.
Plummer said the accomplishment reflected a stronger team focus on the indoor season and consistent effort in training.
“I’m honored to be named Athlete of the Week and thankful for everyone who supported me,” Plummer said. “Breaking the school record and running a personal best felt amazing, but seeing the work pay off was the real reward. I’m excited to keep improving and help our team reach its goals this season. This year, our coaches have changed our perspective, they have drilled into us to take indoor track season seriously and not treat practice as if it’s preseason conditioning. The indoor season is short with only three meets plus state, and this mindset has helped us make the most of it.
Even after losing our best runner who was a senior last year, the 4×800 still made it to indoor state and was one second off the indoor school record, which we will absolutely strive to beat at state.”
The KHSAA Indoor State Track & Field Championships are scheduled for March 4 at Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in Louisville.
