The Port celebrated its third anniversary Friday.
Executive Director Rachel Heath said the youth center’s work has expanded in its three years of operations. Heath said that the center welcomed 1,200 young people in its first year and has seen about 2,000 in each of the next two years.
The Port is a safe space for young people ages 16-25 that offers help in a variety of ways, including mental health and substance use disorders, health screening, mentoring and peer support, and social and life skills training.
The Port also teams with numerous other organizations in Henderson including Henderson County Schools, River Valley Behavioral Health, YMCA, local churches, Henderson Community College and the Fr. Bradley Shelter for Women and Children.
Heath said many in the community are still unaware of The Port and its mission, and it will take some time for the organization to expand its reach as it hopes to.
Heath, however, said The Port has succeeded in the “depth of impact” it has achieved assisting many young people in the organization’s three years.
The Port is open 3-6 p.m. Monday through Friday and can be reached by calling 270-684-0449.
