United Way of Henderson County will host a community open house to celebrate 2-1-1 Day on Wednesday.
It’s a way to spotlight on one of the easiest and most impactful ways neighbors can find help: 2-1-1, said a release from the United Way.
The open house will be 3-5 p.m. at United Way’s office at 428 Second St. It is open to the public.
2-1-1 is a free, confidential, three-digit phone number and service available 24/7 across the United States and Canada. By calling or texting 2-1-1, individuals are connected to trained community resource specialists who provide referrals to essential, non-emergency health and human services, including food, housing, utility assistance, disaster recovery and crisis support, said the release.
“UNITED IS THE WAY means showing up,” said Riley Hamilton, Board Chair of United Way of Henderson County. “2-1-1 is a perfect example of meeting a need. It’s one simple call that can lead to food on the table, lights staying on, or support during a tough moment. That’s impact we’re proud of.”
During the Open House, guests can learn more about United Way’s four focus areas—Health, Education, Financial Stability, and Workforce Development—and see how community investments are improving lives across Henderson County. Attendees will also have the chance to decorate their own United Way T-shirts, hats, or tote bags and take home United Way yard signs and garden flags to use during the upcoming “Where Is United Way?” Hunt Across Henderson.
Parking for the event is available behind the building by entering off Ingram Street and coming through the alley behind Nu-Look, along the fence at Walgreens, or via street parking on Ingram Street, First Street and Second Street. Guests are asked to enter through the front door; handicap-accessible entry is available at the rear of the building.
