The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance site will open for free tax preparation on Monday, Jan. 29.
The volunteer-run VITA program will operate two sites this tax season — one by appointment at the Housing Authority of Henderson three days a week and a second walk-in site at Henderson Christian Community Outreach on Wednesdays only.
The Housing Authority site, 111 S. Adams St., will open on Monday, Jan. 29. Hours will be Mondays and Tuesdays from noon to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.
The last day for services is Saturday, April 13, and appointments are required. To make an appointment, call 270-631-0738.
The first day at the HCCO site, 509 Fifth St., will be Wednesday, Feb. 7. Hours will be Wednesday from 3-6 p.m. and there are no appointments required. The last day for services will be Wednesday, April 3.
The service is offered to help people with low to moderate income, persons with disabilities, the elderly and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance preparing their tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free essential income tax return preparation with electronic filing.
All the tax preparation services, including electronic filing in all states, are free.
