Ladreanna Chambers and her husband, Marshall, have been running a shaved iced truck for some 30 years. But there’s always been something else she wanted to do. On Monday, she—and Marshall—did it.

Their new restaurant, M&M Seafood, opened at 802 Second Street.

“It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time,” she said.

The restaurant will serve fish and seafood baskets ranging from $7.50 to $14. The baskets’ main dishes include catfish fiddlers, catfish steaks, catfish fillet, swai, tilapia and deep fried salmon nuggets. There’s also chicken wing baskets.

It had been advertised that Tuesday would be the restaurant’s grand opening, but Ladreanna decided to do a soft run a day early.

“Steady,” “busy,” “a rush” were all used to describe the first day. She estimated 50-60 people had been in the store by the time of the interview with the Hendersonian, about 4:15 p.m.

There was plenty of family help to get them through the first day. Anthony Hayes said about five family members were also in the restaurant to help the couple on their first day.

“Everyone contributed to help them out,” Hayes said.

In a couple months, M&M will begin serving Soul Food on Fridays and Saturdays. Ladreanna Chambers said she wanted to “get the feel of the other first” before they started serving Soul Food. The regular menu will also be served on those days, she said.

She said somebody asked her the other day why, at her age, would she want to start a new business. But Ladreanna, 65, said she still feels like she’s “got some go” and when you got some, you should keep going.

And it’s her dream. “It took a while coming,” she said.

M&M Fish & Seafood is open 11 a.m.-7p.m.
