City pauses downtown parking enforcement
The city of Henderson has decided to put on hold its downtown parking enforcement because of “unforeseen circumstances.”
“…due to unforeseen circumstances the enforcement of the downtown parking policy is currently being put on hold starting Wednesday, July 31st, 2024,” said a Thursday release from the city.
City Public Relations Director Holli Blanford said she could not elaborate on what the unforeseen circumstances are.
The release said that the city will begin enforcement again in the future but didn’t say when. When enforcement does begin again, the city will issue warning tickets for the first two weeks, it said.
The city on July 1 began downtown parking enforcement, something it hadn’t done for 2 ½ years. For the first month, the city had been issuing warning citations, which allowed drivers to get used to the return of parking enforcement.
City officials have said it’s necessary to begin enforcing parking again because the downtown area is more crowded than it’s been in recent memory, and having open parking spots is necessary for the rise in shopping and restaurant options.
The city, before Thursday’s pause, had been scheduled to begin attaching fines to tickets for parking longer than three hours in the enforcement area on Aug. 1
