Christmas tree recycling runs through Feb. 1

The city of Henderson will be recycling live Christmas trees at Newman Park through Saturday, February 1, 2025.

The wood chips from the recycled trees will be used on the Canoe Creek Nature Trail in Newman Park.

Trees may be dropped off at Newman Park at the end of the southwest parking lot, past the soccer complex, near the Canoe Creek trail head. (Follow the signs) The park is located on Sand Lane.

The city asks that participants remove all tinsel and decorations from the trees before disposal.

For more information, call the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department at (270) 831-1274.

MLK Day celebration will be Jan. 12

The Henderson-Henderson County Human Rights Commission will be hosting the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Celebration in Henderson on Sunday, January 12. It will be 3 p.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church at 20 S. Elm St.

The event theme for 2025 focuses on “Equality, Empowerment, and Excellence,” according to information from the human rights commission.

The special guest speaker for the event will be Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry. Music will be provided by the Henderson County High School Choir and Rev. E.J. Simmons, Senior Pastor of Bennett Memorial United Methodist Church. All are welcome.

For questions, contact Rev. Charles E. Johnson at cjohnson@hendersoncounty.ky.gov  or (270) 860-0093).

Police arrest man for cat mutilation

Henderson Police arrested Kaiden V. Lo following an investigation into an animal cruelty complaint.

According to HPD, the investigation began on December 22, in the 1500 block of Pringle St.

The 911 caller reported finding a mutilated cat on their car, said an HPD release.

The reporter said they had been in a verbal dispute with Lo on December 20 and believed he had placed the cat on their car, police said.

During the investigation, police developed probable cause that resulted in an arrest warrant being issued for Lo.

Lo turned himself in on January 1 and was processed into the Henderson County Detention Center for a charge of Torture of a Dog or Cat, said police.
