Another wreck has occurred on the ramp that will one day be the exit from I-69 to the U.S. 41-Strip.
City of Henderson officials say that Monday afternoon’s accident is the ninth that has occurred at the ramp since it opened in October.
Although the ramp will one day serve as an exit from the interstate, it currently serves as a curvy connector of U.S. 41 North to the 41-Strip, which is one reason I-69 Ohio River Crossing officials believe has led to the wreck. Drivers don’t see it as an exit ramp—which would automatically cause them to slow—and drive too fast, they’ve said.
Monday’s accident involved a tractor-trailer that tipped over. Henderson police said one lane on the roadway was closed for several hours. Additionally, both lanes were closed intermittently as crews worked the accident throughout Monday afternoon, said Jason Cullum, the Henderson Police Department’s public information officer.
Cullum said the tractor-trailer was the only vehicle involved in the accident. There were no injuries, he said.

Cullum said the truck was loaded with 45,000 pounds of aluminum, and at some point, the weight within the truck shifted, causing the truck to tip.
Cullum also said the trucking company was not from Henderson. He didn’t know where the driver was from.
For months, local drivers have complained that the curve of the exit ramp has too tight of a radius. In a previous Hendersonian article, an official with the I-69 Ohio River Crossing said that there will be no reconstruction of a ramp with a larger radius.
Officials, instead, have urged drivers to slow down and drive the posted 30-miles-per-hour speed limit.
