A second local bridge on a state highway, this time in rural western Henderson County, has been ordered closed, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced Friday afternoon.
Following an inspection on Friday morning, KYTC bridge inspectors closed the bridge on Kentucky 136-West over Pond Creek. The bridge is located a few miles northwest of Smith Mills, roughly halfway between Smith Mills and the former community of Alzey.
Engineers are assessing the situation to determine next steps, according to KYTC. The bridge will be closed indefinitely.
Motorists can use Kentucky 268 to bypass the closed structure.
