Lions auction will be Feb. 22

The Henderson Lions Auction, a local tradition that started in the early 1950s, is set for 6 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 22, at Rookie’s Sports Bar and Restaurant.

Tickets will soon be available from Lions members and will cost $75 each, according to a release from the club.

According to the club, the ticket includes a meal, drink ticket and access to bidding at the live auction.

Some of the great items auctioned last year included Legend’s Hotel and dinner for two at Cavanaugh’s Restaurant; a one-night cabin rental at the Farmer and Frenchman; a round of golf at French Lick; a Blackstone griddle; a grandfather clock;  and lots of bourbon, said the release.

One hundred percent of the money raised at the auction stays in the community. Last year’s auction raised close to $40,000, said the release.

The money raised at the auction is used for grants to local nonprofit organizations, scholarships for local high school seniors, as well as eye care needs and sight conservation programs, including vision screenings for first, third, fifth and seventh graders in Henderson County Schools. In 2024, the Lions distributed about $68,000 to the community and screened 1,400 students in local schools, said the release.

AOC launches its scam alert webpage

The Administrative Office of the Courts launched its scam alert webpage Monday to help protect Kentuckians from payment scams, including those involving fake arrest warrants and missed jury service, according to a release from the AOC.

The webpage went live Monday during the Federal Trade Commission’s Identity Theft Awareness Week.

Explore the scam alert webpage and bookmark it to check back for alerts anytime at https://kcoj.info/CourtsScamAlert.

According to the release, the new webpage aims to help the public stay informed of common fraud schemes, offers tools to help citizens protect themselves and provides an outlet for reporting fraud and getting further assistance.

Among the resources on the webpage are a video about tactics criminals use to scam people to get money and personal information, a link to jury service information by county, a fraud fact and tip sheet and contact information for reporting scams, said the release.
