Callie Burnett | Basketball | Athlete of the Week for week ending Dec. 6

Callie Burnett turned in two solid performances in her debut as a starter for the Henderson County Lady Colonels basketball team over the weekend, as they won one game and lost one.

On Friday night, Burnett made her presence felt in the post, scoring 11 points and grabbing five rebounds in a 62-49 win over defending 2nd District Champion McCracken County. The sophomore was 3-for-5 (60%) from the field and 5-for-9 (56%) at the free throw line.

On Saturday afternoon at Breckinridge County High School’s Tip Off Classic, Burnett led the Lady Cols with both 11 points and eight rebounds, in a close 42-35 loss to North Bullitt. She also led the team in field goal percentage going 3-for-6 (50%), as well as a perfect 5-for-5 at the charity stripe. Her efforts earned her the honor of Cecilian Bank Tip Off Classic Player of the Game for Henderson.

Burnett on her opening weekend: “I had a lot of nerves going into the weekend with my first games starting on varsity with the Lady Colonels. I worked through it with my teammates and the support of the coaches and had strong games. I focused on strong rebounding, getting the ball back up quickly, and strong defense. We pulled off one win and one loss against some good teams and are still finding our stride. I look forward to continuing to improve as a team. All glory to God for the talent He has given us and excited for the year. Go Lady Colonels!”
