Experience: Henderson BOZA, Henderson Planning Commission, Henderson City Commission 1998-2016, Kentucky House of Representatives 2017-18, Kentucky State Senate 2019-2025

Current Occupation: Entrepreneur & Small Business Owner (Nu-Look Family of Cleaners), former owner of Nu-Look Restoration.

Family: Wife, Vickie Hall Mills; Three adult children, Caleb, Chelsea and Noah; Two granddaughters, Halle and Camryn; Mother, Marsha Connell Mills

Why did you decide to run for this office?

I ran for the Legislature in 2016 to become a voice in the Majority Caucus for Northwest Kentucky.  To me, it felt like Western Kentucky had been overlooked in the prior 20 years and much of the focus of state government was on Central and Eastern KY.  I was also concerned with Kentucky continually falling behind Indiana and Tennessee, and much of that had to do with fiscal policy.

Why do you believe you are the best choice for this seat?

I have spent 9 years in the Legislature developing relationships with my colleagues.  During this time, I have risen through committee leadership and now hold a senior leadership position in the Majority Caucus, which places me in a position to effective advocate for NWKY, along with Kentucky as a whole.  I think I have acquired over time a unique understanding of NWKY and can verbalize this to others around the state and within the State Senate.  My current position will help NWKY continue to see the focus investment by the state in economic development and transportation that it has seen over the last few years. Experience within the Legislature, colleague relationships, and my leadership position matters for NWKY!

What are your top priorities for the next term?

Finalize financing of the I-69 ORX and ensure the project continues its forward progress, continued reduction of the personal income tax toward 0%, continue my work on energy reliability and support for coal and coal jobs, continue leading Kentucky’s approach to bring relief to the housing crunch, and continue to stand up for our rural Kentucky values.

A final brief statement to support your candidacy.

It has been an honor of a lifetime to represent NWKY in the Kentucky State Senate for the last 7 years.  I am a full-time State Senator that is dedicated to travel the state in order to represent our region of Western Kentucky.  My efforts have landed me in a very influential position that has and will continue to help NWKY.  Western Kentucky is primed for economic development and growth over the years to come.  I pledge to continue to use my practical business experience, my relationships within the Legislature, and my understanding of the legislative process to fight for working families in NWKY, Kentucky’s coal industry and coal jobs, and our rural conservative Kentucky values.
