Authorities say that Timothy Oliver, a Henderson County Detention Center inmate who escaped Tuesday, has been apprehended in Reed.
A Kentucky State Police spokesperson sent a message that Oliver was found Wednesday morning.
The spokesperson didn’t immediately respond to a call seeking further information.
Oliver walked away—or more precisely rode away—from the jail Tuesday at about noon.
Henderson County Jailer Bruce Todd said that Oliver was one of three inmates who were outside working on bicycles that the jail takes in and fixes each year and then gives to children in the community.
At about 11:57 a.m., Oliver decided “he would ride (one) off,” the jailer said.
Todd said Oliver rode the bicycle toward Ohio Drive. Later an officer with the Henderson Police Department found the bike about two blocks down from the jail, he said.
A Wednesday post from the Henderson Police Department gave a “huge thank you to the community for any and all information they gave to law enforcement to bring him back in custody safely.”
The HPD post said KSP worked the case all night with the help of HPD and the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.
Oliver was serving a sentence for third-degree burglary, said the KPS release.
Todd said he didn’t know the length of Oliver’s sentence. He said, though, that the state Department of Corrections classified him as a Class 1 inmate, which is a low-level risk allowing an inmate to work outside.
Todd on Tuesday said Oliver is a resident of Reed.
