A free family event offering every opportunity to get in the Christmas spirit is coming up Sunday afternoon, Dec. 10, at Henderson County Public Library.
It’s the library’s annual holiday celebration, called “Winter Extravaganza” this year, and will feature a visit from Santa Claus himself.
Families are welcome to dress in their best holiday attire or wear Christmas pajamas for photos with Santa, said HCPL Director Shannon Sandefur.
Activities will include all kinds of crafts (including Shrinky Dink ornaments and Snowman Slime from the Henderson Community College STEM Club), refreshments, games and other fun, Sandefur said, noting that crafts will celebrate winter holiday celebrations from around the globe.
She said the event will include demonstrations in the Makers Space Lab.
“We know the Makers Space Lab is a great place to come do your DIY Christmas gifts,” Sandefur said.
The event hours are 1:30-5 p.m.
While there, you can visit the Giving Tree Village upstairs in the Pittsburg Tank & Tower annex where several non-profits have decorated trees representing their missions and provided “wish lists” of items they need at their organizations.
This year’s “Giving Tree Village,” now in its third year, include Court-Appointed Special Advocates, CAT Center at Housing Authority of Henderson, New Hope Animal Shelter, Chloe Randolph Foundation, Imagination Library, Marcia’s Place and Family Resource Centers of Henderson County Schools.
