The city of Henderson announced Thursday that an estimated $1 million in healthcare services were provided during June’s Green River Area Wellness Mission.
The joint-service training mission occurred at South Middle School and the Henderson County Fairgrounds from June 13-27. It was a partnership between the United States Department of Defense, the city of Henderson, the Delta Regional Authority, and the Green River Area Development District.
During the mission, service members provided medical, dental and optometry care for individuals at SMS and veterinary services at the Henderson County Fairgrounds. Also, many shelter pets from the Human Society of Henderson and New Hope Animal Shelter were spayed and neutered.
Led by the Air National Guard, in connection with the Air Force, Army Reserve, Army National Guard, and Remote Area Medical, the mission served 1,642 patients, said a release from the city. Additionally, 34,161 procedures were performed, and 917 eyeglasses were fabricated and distributed to the community, said the release.
The mission deployed 171 service members to Henderson, and they totaled 18,158 hours of training during the 10 days of clinical care, said the release.
“I am so pleased with how this effort turned out,” said Mayor Brad Staton. “Our staff worked very hard to help coordinate this exercise with various members and branches of our United States armed forces. Our military received invaluable training, and our community received tons of no-cost health care. It was truly a win-win for Henderson and for our IRT folks.”
