The Henderson Lions Club will host its annual One-Night Live Auction, a tradition that dates back to the early 1950s, on Feb. 21.
The event will be 6:30 p.m. at Rookie’s.
According to a release from the Lions, the so-called “Gold Tickets” cost $75 and include dinner and lots of live auction activity. Tickets can be purchased from Lions Club members, on the Henderson Lions Facebook page or at hendersonlions.org.
Some of the items up for auction this year include a beach getaway at a 4-bedroom Destin condo, two tickets and two VIP backstage tours for the Grand Old Opry, build your own taco bar for 10, an all-inclusive landscaping package, a Porsche stick-shift driving experience, a weekend at The Nest, a downtown Henderson loft, a private tour of the new Rhythm River Distillery, 40 radio spots and a $2,500 crawl space. Also, there will be lots of bourbon for auction, too.
The money raised at the one-night live auction stays in the community. The Lions use it to support eye care, and to provide eyeglasses to those who cannot afford them, grants to local nonprofit organizations and scholarships for local high school seniors.
Last year’s event raised nearly $40,000, said the Lions.
As part of its sight conservation program, the Lions, with the help of the Henderson Community College nursing program, screen local school children in grades 1,3 and 5 for eye problems.
The auction started on local radio in the early 1950s, moved to cable television in the 1970s, and transitioned to both live and on-line in the early 2010s. It became a one-night live auction about eight years ago.
