One of Debbie Scott’s photographs will be a part of the Governor’s Kentucky Derby exhibit and will be displayed in the Capitol Rotunda from May 3-July 1.
Scott said she captured the photograph a couple summers ago at the Henderson riverfront. She said she likes to go to the riverfront to take photos and when a riverboat is docked, she tries to capture images with them in it.
She was looking for something a little bit different the day she took the photo that is a part of the exhibit. She was focused on the water shooting up from the downtown fountains—with a riverboat in the background—when “this kid just comes running through.”
When she saw the application for the exhibit, she decided to enter this photograph. She said the exhibit features about 50 other photographs and paintings.
Scott said she first got interested in photography in her younger years—high school or college. But after getting married and having children, she didn’t have much time to pursue it. About six or seven years ago after she’d retired from the Kentucky State Police, she said she got back into it.
She likes to photograph birds and wildlife and occasionally does weddings, engagements and other shoots.
