The Henderson County Office of Emergency Management said that pre-filled sandbags will be available to the community for property protection from flooding.

Starting 8 a.m. Thursday, sandbags can be picked up at the end of Borax Drive off South Green Street. They will be available till supplies run out.

Officials said Henderson Materials and Mulzer Crushed Stone donated sand, while inmates at the Henderson County Detention Center will bag the sand.

To pick up, drive past the HCDC on Borax Drive to the end of the road where sandbags will be set ready to be picked up, OEM said.

On Wednesday, Henderson County government announced that a second location to pick up sandbags has been established at the Henderson County Fairgrounds. It was scheduled to be open Wednesday morning, according to a post from Henderson County government.

Also of note:

  • Henderson County Judge-Executive Brad Schneider has declared a state of emergency ahead of the predicted storm, effective 5 p.m. Wednesday. According to a post from Henderson County, Kentucky Government: “Citizens should be extremely cautious when driving or avoid driving at all if possible. The coming storms could cause severe damage and power outages, so be prepared. Flash flooding is also likely, so homeowners in low areas might have to evacuate.”
  • Henderson County OEM has released a list of shelters. They are

(314) 393-3454,  Open until end of severe threat

  • Precautions:

-Keep an eye on rising water conditions and if your area floods with 2 to 3 inches of water please move to higher ground locations. The area is forecasted to have 10-plus inches of rain over the next 4 days. Don’t wait till it’s too late to evacuate.

-Do not cross road covered with water. Don’t put your life, your family’s lives or first responders’ lives in danger. Turn around, don’t drown. Motorists can be issued a ticket for crossing barricaded roads.
