The Henderson County High School football team outgained opponent George Rogers Clark 416 yards to 375. The Colonels rushed for more yards than the Cardinals, too—236 to 183. And HCHS had 19 first downs to GRC’s 12.

But the Colonels walked away from the game losing the only statistical category that matters, taking a 34-14 loss in Winchester Friday night.

It was the first six minutes of the third quarter that doomed the Colonels.

First, George Rogers Clark returned the second half kickoff 93 yards. With the extra point, GRC took a 21-7 lead.

After HCHS got the ball back, the Colonel offense went three and out. GRC quickly capitalized with a three-play drive, finding the end zone on a 47-yard touchdown pass.

On the Colonels’ next drive, the Cardinals picked up an HCHS fumble and returned it to the HCHS 3-yard line. The Cardinals subsequently scored a three-yard touchdown.

Just like that, the score was 34-7.

The Colonels’ Kieran Cole scored on a 9-yard run in the fourth quarter for the final score.

HCHS was led in rushing by Anzerion Marigny, who ran 13 times for 112 yards. Marigny scored on a 52-yard run in the first quarter.

Quarterback Brody Belt completed 10 of 23 passes for 180 yards with one interception. Receiver Avant Baxter grabbed two passes for 82 yards.

HCHS plays Christian County at home on Friday.
