City officials are hopeful the Wathen Lane rebuild will be complete sooner than originally planned.
According to a document from the city, the road is scheduled to be completed and open for drivers by Oct. 11. Officials at a late winter meeting said the road work would be completed by December 15.
City Manager Buzzy Newman said water line relocation is almost 100% complete.
He also said electrical lines on one side of the road, part of Kenergy’s system, are complete. The electrical lines on the other side of the road, those a part of the Henderson Municipal Power & Light’s system, have not been finished and will need to be installed at the same time as the road construction occurs, he said.
Below is the schedule of upcoming work. City officials say it’s subject to change.
- Road work from U.S. 60 to Hillmont Drive is expected to run from Monday through June 21, according to the schedule from the city.
- From June 24 to June 26, the section from Hillmont Drive to just past the Wolf Hills Boulevard intersection will be entirely closed. That means that residents who leave their neighborhood via Wolf Hills Boulevard must drive north on Wathen Lane and hook up with Green River Road or Wolf Hills Road. Residents who leave from Hillmont will need to drive south to U.S. 60.
- On June 26, the section from just north of Wolf Hill Boulevard to the end of the project, just past Braxton Park subdivision, will have one side of the road closed. The side of the road closure will alternate, depending on where the work is being done, said City Engineer Doug Boom.
Owensboro company, Yager Materials, won the bidding process to complete the work. It has just been bought by Belgian company, Carmeuse, said Newman.
The Hendersonian will provide updates as they become available.
