The former location of Grandy’s restaurant will be demolished and a 7 Brew Drive Thru coffee stand will be built in its place.
That’s according to plans submitted to the Henderson-Henderson County Joint Planning Commission. The planning commission Tuesday evening approved a rezoning request for two parcels on the property at 2005 U.S. 41-North.
The plans were submitted by Jasper, Ind.-based SERVUS Inc., which owns the building.
SERVUS representatives said their company will pay for the demolition. 7 Brew will pay for the construction of the new stand, they said.
The two parcels on the property had been zoned city residential, said Brian Bishop, the executive director of the planning commission. He said planning commission staff had not been able to figure out why those parcels, which had been used for parking at the Grandy’s, were zoned city residential.
The planning commission Tuesday evening voted unanimously to rezone the parcels as highway commercial.
The 7 Brew stand will feature two drive-thru lanes, Bishop said.
After the very brief meeting, Timothy Poynter, project manager for 7 Brew in this region, said there will be between 15 and 20 employees working at any time in the 520-square foot stand. He said that the number of employees is needed to run the coffee stand because they stay busy.
“Once you have it, you’ll see why,” he said.
Poynter said hours will be 5:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 5:30 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
According to the 7 Brew website, the company’s first stand was in Rogers, Ark. Currently there are 364 stands nationwide. The closest to Henderson is in Madisonville, Poynter said.
The 7 Brew plans show a relatively quick turnaround for the property. The Hendersonian previously reported that Grandy’s closed its doors on Jan. 16. The Grandy’s at that location opened in 1983.
