Henderson County Archery | Abe Moore & Ellen Chaney | Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 28
This past weekend, the Henderson County Girls’ Archery team won the KHSAA Region One Championship, which was hosted at the Chase Fulcher Archery Center in Henderson.
Leading the way for the girls was freshman Ellen Chaney, who shot a 290 to take second place individually on the girls’ side.
Though the boys’ team finished in sixth place, freshman Abe Moore shot a 294, which was good enough to earn him the boys’ individual Region One Title.
Chaney on her team’s and her outstanding weekend: “It feels good to be a part of a winning team of strong girls. I am proud of our hard work and dedication. I cannot wait to see what we can accomplish at state in April. I am very excited about placing second and know what I need to do to improve for state. I’m thankful to have so many coaches that support me and my teammates. Go Colonels!”
Moore on his regional title: “I’m truly honored to be named Athlete of the Week. This season has been a time of growth for me, and I’m thankful for the chance to keep learning and improving along the way. I’m very grateful for my coaches and teammates who encourage and support me every day. I was extremely nervous for this particular competition, but my teammate, Gareth Wilson, prayed right before we started shooting, and it helped ease my nerves. My goal is to always give it my best, stay humble and to give God the glory. I’m thankful to be part of Henderson County’s Archery team.”
