High school students are invited to Deaconess’ ‘Jump Into Nursing’ event

High school students and their families are invited to explore the exciting world of healthcare at “Jump Into Nursing,” a free, interactive pre-nursing event from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2026, said a release from Deaconess.

The event will be in the pavilion on the third floor of the Orthopedic and Neuroscience Hospital, located on the Deaconess Gateway campus in Newburgh.

This engaging event is designed to introduce students to real healthcare careers in a fun, approachable and hands-on environment.

Participants can take part in a variety of interactive learning stations across multiple healthcare areas, including:

  • CPR and Stop the Bleed training
  • Surgery and clinical skills demonstrations
  • Hair Care Equity and women’s health education
  • Resume building and career readiness tips
  • Exploration of local and online college programs
  • Volunteer and shadowing opportunities

Students will also gain behind-the-scenes access through guided hospital tours, where they can meet nurses and care teams, observe a real healthcare environment and ask questions in a welcoming, low-pressure setting, said the release.

“With ongoing workforce shortages in healthcare—especially in nursing—the need for compassionate, skilled professionals has never been greater,” said Kimberly Simon, Deaconess HR Recruiter. “Events like Jump Into Nursing provide early exposure, helping students discover career paths they may not have previously considered while strengthening the future of our local healthcare system.”

Students and families are encouraged to reserve their spot today.

Pioneer Plastics celebrates 40 Years of ownership by Ed Knapp

Pioneer Plastics, Inc., is celebrating 40 years of ownership by Ed Knapp, who bough the company in 1986, according to a release from the company.

The company was founded in 1964 and moved to Dixon in 1980, and according to the release, it has expanded operations the last four decades and moved into a state-of-the-art 100,000 square foot plastic injection molding manufacturing facility. According to a company email, numerous Henderson residents work at Pioneer.

The company serves many long-term and big-name customers such as Whirlpool, General Electric, Pizza Hut, World’s Finest Chocolate and more.

Pioneer also works with local school. It is a partner in Henderson Community College’s FAME program, and Pioneer hosts students from both Webster County and Henderson County high schools, providing hands-on experience in manufacturing, accounting, human resources, and sales, said the release.

“This milestone reflects the dedication of our employees past and present,” said Eddie Knapp, President of Pioneer Plastics, Inc. “But it also reflects the trust of our customers. We are grateful to our team, our clients, and the Dixon community for making 40 years possible.”
