The Henderson NAACP will kick off the fall campaign season with a candidate forum on Sept. 10.
The forum, which will be held at the Henderson County Public Library, will feature four candidates: Janelle Glass and J.T. Payne, both running for the Dist. 11 Kentucky House or Representatives seat; and Timmy Dunn and Les Jenkins-Mackey, both running for the Henderson County Judge-Executive seat.
Deborah Hoda, the president of the local NAACP branch, said the forum, titled “Can We Talk?,” will have a relaxed setting and is featuring some of the younger candidates for offices. She added that a goal in hosting this forum is to get more young people to show up and get involved in local politics.
NAACP Treasurer April Johnson described the atmosphere as more of a “living room conversation.”
Hoda said the forum is scheduled to be moderated by David Benson. She also said that audience members will have the chance to ask questions of the candidates.
Doors open at 5 p.m., and Hoda said the forum will begin at 5:30 p.m.
