The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said the mandatory annual inspection of the U.S. 41 Twin Bridges ill be extended to a completion date of Friday, Aug. 21.
A previous release said the work was expected to be finished by Thursday, Aug. 20.
Additionally, KYTC said that the transition of equipment for the from the northbound bridge to the southbound bridge, which began on Friday, is expected to be completed by Sunday.
Motorists should anticipate delays on both bridges as crews move equipment into position to complete the inspection of the southbound bridge, KYTC said.
During the lane restrictions, crews will also remove trash and debris from the bridge, clear bridge drains and patch potholes, said KYTC.
On Friday, Aug. 21, lane restrictions will extend farther north as crews replace a damaged sign near the weigh station at the Kentucky-Indiana state line. That closure is expected to extend from approximately mile point 17.2 to mile point 17.6 in Indiana.
All lanes are expected to reopen by 3 p.m. Friday.
Motorists are encouraged to use caution when traveling through the work zone, allow additional time for their commute and watch for changing traffic patterns and crews working on the bridges, said KYTC.
