HMP&L fiber is ready for some now and for all city residents by summer 2025

This shows the page on the HMP&L website where a resident can type in his or her address and see when the utility's high-speed fiber internet will be available there.

Attic insulation program also available

Henderson Municipal Power & Light General Manager Brad Bickett said all the utility’s service area within city limits will have the capability to hook into its high-speed fiber internet service by summer 2025.

This comes on the heels of an announcement last week that the first area of the city is ready for residents living there to connect to. It includes an area bordered to the south by Fourth Street, to the west by the Ohio River, extending north as far as the cloverleaf and including some streets east of North Green Street, including much of Kimsey Lane.

“People can begin getting fiber internet hooked up in that area,” Bickett said.

He said that fiber lines are following the same lines that electric lines are set in the areas of the city. So, if an area has underground electric, HMP&L crews will be adding underground fiber to that area, he said.

Bickett also said that HMP&L will build fiber connections to areas within city limits served by Kentucky Utilities or Kenergy. He said customers in those areas would most likely be able to get connected to HMP&L high-speed fiber in 2026.

Bickett also mentioned an interactive map that can be used to determine when connection will be available at a residence. To use this tool, go to HENDERSON MUNICIPAL POWER & LIGHT – Home (hmpl.com).

Then click on Fiber Services. At the next page, scroll down to the “See Coverage Map” link and click on it.

Type your address under where “Search Your Address” is written. As you write your address, the entire address will soon be shown underneath. When it does, click on it and the updated information about your service will be shown.

Prices for the service are $79.95 for 1-gigabit service, $99.95 for 2-gigabits and $179.95 for 5-gigs, Bickett said. There’s also a fiber home unlimited phone service for $14.95 per month.

Residential Attic Insulation Program has begun

HMP&L has just begun an attic insulation program in which qualifying residents can get added attic insulation for free, Bickett said.

To determine qualification, a resident should also go to the website and hover over “Electric” and then move the pointer to “Programs” and then over to “Residential Attic Insulation Program.” Click on it.

Information and instructions about this program are located on this page. At the bottom, there is a button that says “Audit Form and Application.” Clicking on that will open the form a resident must complete. After completing, send to HMP&L. The utility will then determine if the resident meets requirements.

Bickett said the goal of the program is to find residents who are using an extremely high amount of energy. If those residents were able to install more insulation, it could reduce that home’s energy usage while also reducing the drain on the whole system, which “benefits everybody,” he said.
