Henderson attorney Curt Hamilton has been chosen as a member of the Board of Governors for the Kentucky Justice Association. He was sworn in Thursday evening.

Hamilton said it’s an incredible honor because he was chosen by his peers in the statewide organization. He noted that the KJA is not a governmental body or one that is mandatory for a lawyer to join, like the Kentucky Bar Association.

Hamilton said he’s been a member of the Kentucky Justice Association, formerly called the Kentucky Association of Trial Attorneys, since early in his practice.

“The organization is important to me,” he said. “Honestly, it’s how I learned to do what I do.”

Since 2011, Hamilton has owned and operated Curt Hamilton Injury Law. Before that, he worked at firms in Henderson and one in Cincinnati, where he graduated from the law program at the University of Cincinnati.

Hamilton said his work on the Board of Governors will entail offering advice to other attorneys in Kentucky and assisting in the education programs for attorneys provided by the KJA.

It will also include advocacy work in Frankfort, specifically in the realm of the 7th Amendment, which guarantees the right to a jury trial in civil cases.

He sees his role as one “to keep the 7th Amendment alive and well in our state.”

Part of that effort, Hamilton said, is assisting attorneys who take on insurance companies and multi-billion dollar organizations that try to limit what injured people can recover.

He also said part of his role will be talking to state Sen. Robby Mills and state Rep. J.T. Payne to insure that the 7th Amendment rights remain protected.

In Kentucky, he said, “We have a strong history of protecting regular people’s rights.”

Hamilton also currently serves as the president of the Henderson Bar Association.
