The retail store Five Below is set to open a store in Henderson.

According to city of Henderson Code Enforcement, a permit was issued to Ershig Properties Inc. for a remodel at the former Mighty Dollar store located in Gardenside Shopping Center

On the building permit obtained from the city codes department, the permit was issued for an “A-3 remodel for a FIVE BELOW” which will cost $331,000.

The Hendersonian has not obtained a timeframe when the store might open. A message was left with Ershig Properties on Friday. Representatives had not returned the call by Tuesday. A message was left with a media representative for Five Below on Tuesday.

Five Below is a retail chain that specializes in products for “teens, tweens and beyond” with most products’ price ranging between $1 and $5, according to its website.

According to the company’s press kit found on its webpage, Five Below was founded in 2002, is headquartered in Philadelphia, and has more than 1,700 stores in 44 states.

There are three nearby Five Below locations currently—one at the Evansville Pavillion shopping center, which is also the home of the eastside Target, and two in Owensboro.

In other local retail news, Missy Vanderpool, the executive director of Henderson Economic Development, said a local push to attract more retail is making progress.

HED attended the International Council of Shopping Centers trade show in Atlanta in October. Vanderpool said seven meeting appointments with interested developers occurred during the trade show and four follow-ups have occurred since.

She said she’s seeing interest from developers who work with retailers about coming to Henderson.

HED was not involved in Five Below’s decision to locate here, Vanderpool said.
