Josh Boston announced Thursday that he was resigning from the Henderson County High School head football coach position.

Boston, in a Facebook post later published by WSON on its Facebook page, wrote in part:

“Although this is very difficult, with time over the holiday break to reflect, I became more confident this was the best more for myself & my family.

I am very thankful for the 18 years I have been a coach in the Colonel Program and especially the last 9 years as Head Coach.

HCHS and the Colonel Football program mean the world to me, especially being a former player here myself.

I am thankful for the support of our Colonel family and I have no doubt the HCHS Administration will work hard to find the next Head Coach to lead the program.

I will be remaining as a teacher in our district and will help players in anyway possible during this transition to help them be successful next season”

According to the WSON post, Boston’s record as head coach was 56-48 with his 2022 team finishing 10-3 and runner-up in the Region.

This past year, the Colonels finished 4-7 and lost in the first round of the playoffs to Barren County.

HCHS Athletic Director Nathan Grace said Boston will be tough to replace.

“It was a shock to us,” said HCHS Athletic Director Nathan Grace. “He means the world to me. It’s going to be a hard, hard road ahead to fill his shoes.”

Boston did so much with the program’s operations, which relieved some of the stress of getting things done for Grace, who is in his first year as athletic director, he said. He also learned much about football and the program from Boston.

But because Boston did so much with the program, Grace said it will be difficult to find a replacement who can do as much as he did.

“He did so much it’s going to be hard to get somebody with that knowledge,” Grace said.

A screening committee will be put together soon with a goal of compiling the most comprehensive list possible to find both a great educator and coach, Grace said.

The athletic director said he hopes to have a new coach in place before spring practice.

Reached via text message, Boston told the Hendersonian he will be able to discuss his resignation at a later date.
